It is Phal season here at the moment everything is spiking or in bloom. Just like to share some observation i have made and clarify a few things that growers once told me was no possible or hasn't been seen before.

A Phal that was bought with 2 spikes from the store can produce another 2 spikes EVERY year! As long as you give it the right things it needs. As you can see here i get two spikes every year from her.

A spike can arise from the same node as it did before.

Cutting back a spike will most often produce another spike and it doesn't have to be the node at the top.

Leaves can also grow on a spike to assist with photosynthesis.

I hope this clears a few things up. Aren't orchids such interesting things?
