A NOID, or not quite a noid. I know that it is an oncidium species, bought from one of the well-known South American dealers who travel the world visiting orchid shows. I also know that it is a species in the Altissimum group. But no more than that.
I have a copy of Harry Zelenkos wonderful Illustrated Encyclopaedia of Oncidiums, which has full size illustrations of over 800 of the Oncidium species, with some helpful notes about each group - and it is from that volume that I got as far as the group. But the flowers of each spedies are a bit variable, and in the end I have to say that there are very many oncidiums which look like this, so the name will have to remain unknown. Unless I take a rather better pic of the individual flower, and ask Ivan to name it for me.
One of my "welcome back" plants - I have not see flowers for several years , and suddenly, here it is. Welcome back indeed.
BTW. the f;lowers are about one inch, tip to toe.
