Knicknames are great, but for more formal puposes, always work with a known name, or else call it a NOID (no identification).

Plants sold that are improperly or mistakenly named wreak havoc among collectors. If you're not absolutely sure, you can speculate what it might be, but you can't assign a name arbitrarily.

I know that's no fun, but mislabeled plants are a huge problem. It's not worth making it worse on guesses.
