What should I use when I repot my sedenii phrag? All opinions welcome.
Depends on the Phrag & the growing enviroment but i,d go for CHC for a medium.Rockwool is also very good(thats what mine were in when i bought mine) but i,ve no experience with it(changed over to s/h almost immediately i got them).Bark will be fine but it may need changing every 6 months or so if you grow the Phrag wet.
Would a mix of medium & fine fir bark be ok you think?Originally Posted by uncasteeb
I would have thought that the fine bark will break down pretty quick but as Phrags don,t give a hoot about repotting(generally) just repot it every 3 - 6 months.
medium and fine bark will be fine as long as you keep the roots wet. with or without a saucer of water.
I always use bark with phrags..fine or medium is good, with loads of spongerock and some sphagnum. While I prefer coconut husk chips for most orchids, especially paphs, I find that phrags grow better in bark. Not that cch can't be used...they grow well enough in it, but they seem to grow better in bark...as does Paph delanatii, which is the only paph that seems to prefer phrag conditions and grows in my phrag mix...but with not as much water as phrags. Take care, Eric Muehlbauer
Thanks Eric, I am thinking I'll stick with my medium of choice, fine and medium bark. Seems to be the general concensus it is ok for Phrags.Originally Posted by e.muehlbauer
