Cymbidium temperature fluctuation

I have a Cymbidium Via Mar Tranquilla 'Mt Cook', that I bought last year around Easter. I have had it in my Greenhouse all the time and have fertilized it with Grow More 20-20-20 since May . Beginning October 1. I will switch to Grow More 6-30-30. I realize that I need to get the temp down at night to 40 degrees someway. I thought about putting a couple of trays of Ice on top of the pot it is in for 30 days at night. Will that get the temp down or do I need to get an old refrigerator? Should I start Sept 15 or Oct 1 ? Do you need to go more than 30 days? Our (Texas) temp now is 75-90 almost everyday until Oct. Everybody seems to say give up but I love Cybidiums so much. Please advise what to do if you know or if you live in Texas or Florida and have been able to grow Cymbidiums. Many Thanks

We leave our cyms that need to get 'cold' out until the first frost. The frost doesn't seem to hurt them and they spike and bloom regularly. I think the important thing is to not let them freeze. After the first frost, we move them back to the GH.
