Default New additions to the menagerie

Recently got a new B. smithii (mexican red-kneed tarantula) sling -- pics to follow later -- a brown snake (Storeria dekayi) which a student brought into school, and a vinegaroon (Uropygid).

The snake is cute, as kids we used to catch lots of earthworm sized snakes next to the river and took them to school in margerine tubs. But that THING... that's where I @$%^ myself.... I have been know to get out of moveing vehicles because something flew in the window...

The Brown Snake is brilliant. The vinegaroon... I think I'll pass on that one. They do give me the creeps.

I cannot believe I am going to say this, but the snake is cute. That other thing however... ewwwww - it is creepy. Are you not concerned that it might bite or sting you? Are they poisonous?

    Cheers,
    BD

I'm not sure if I'm more hurt on Vinnie's behalf or concerned by your skeptical opinion of my IQ & sanity. LOL!

No, vinegaroons are not poisonous and can't sting. They are so named because when upset they emit a vinegar compound as a deterent to predators

LOL! I assure you that I hold you in the highest regard - especially when it comes to these critters that I know nothing about. Absolutely nothing to do with my estimation of your IQ or sanity, but more to do with me hoping you will not get injured by some strange critter that I fear. hehe...

Thanks for sharing them and the information about them with us. I learn something new on here everyday!

    Cheers,
    BD

Oh my lord. I'd be running for the hills if anyone came near me with those critters!

I have lots of snakes around my house and sometimes find them in my orchid pots but that big black thing just gave me the creeps.

Cool! I an not familiar with vinegaroons..Where are they native to?

What I find funny is we don't know very much about each other. While reading some of these posts, I start making assumptions about other members. Paul from reading this post...I am assuming that you are under 30, and single. I may be way off.

Paul, your post is EXACTLY like Bruce's London Ghost.
