Question with Coelogyne pandurata

I have had this Coelogyne pandurata for less than a year and I am still trying to learn about its growth behavior.

I have noticed this little growth on top of the oldest pseudobulb. Is this a flower bud? or a keiki? perhaps just some excess tissue from the previous leaves?



Here's a shot of the entire plant. The youngest growth is on the right.


I am also getting conflicting information about a winter rest for this species. Does anyone who grow these plants give them a dry winter rest?
And is it normal for all the leaves to turn brown in winter? I'm not sure if these are evergreen or deciduous.

John...it should not have it's leaves turning brown...
It normally blooms from newly developing growth...not sure that growth is on the p-bulb but that is the region a spike would form from. I give mine a cool, dryer rest but not a dry rest.

Also not sure if your plant is pandurata. Pandurata has a fairly big distance between p-bulbs. From what I see, yours doesn't. I have seen many Burfordiense labeled as pandurata.

I'm not sure why the young leaves are wilting. I am still giving this plant some water every week but not as often as the other orchids since I was not sure about its rest requirements.
I may need to water it some more despite the winter cool weather because our winters are quite dry over here.

If this is not a pandurata then the vendor owes me a refund It was not cheap either.

John there are two type of pandurata,those from Sabah the flower very huge about 5 inches whereas from Malaysia Peninsular is relatively small .The flower arise from new shoot.The plant in normal habitat is evergreen and no resting period at all.Just have a look the Sabah var. below.

This one came labeled as pandurata but the p-bulbs are too close together and I assume it is Burfordiense. The description of the species says wides spaced p-bulbs.

I will increase the watering again on this plant. I hope its not too late to save the remaining leaves.

looks like you have your leaves burnt
how is it now ??i hope it is recovering
i had this pandurata sometimes ago, when my shading went down due to muson wind, it got toasted and went to orchid's heaven....
