Oh yes they are gorgeous.
Burnhams have them.
£60 though
Mind you i got Phragenstien from them so it should be a muliple growth plant.
The Paph. Gary Romagna i got from them is simply perfect. No brown leaves/blemishes , 24" LS & it looks like it,s going to bloom .How do i know ?

Dana ,
You could ask for a lot worse for Christmas !!! :lemmetell
I wanted a China Dragon so bad I bought 2 !!!!One has peviously bloomed(not for me) and one is a large seedling. The China I saw at C&H in SC. was to die for...really deep color and long petals....drool. It was not for sale, and that was a good thing, too!
Was that made w/ besseae var. flavum? I've seen them generally a deeper red. Both are very pretty - a fine choice Dana! Hope St. Nick grants your wish!!!
H, I think it's still way too red for the yellow bess to have been a parent. You'd probably be able to attribute the deeper red shade in the ones you saw to natural variation within the grex.
They are gorgeous, though; no doubt about it.
I haven't been able to find one in Sweden (that must be why I want it so badly)
How much is £60 in euros Steve?
Heather, the first time i saw a pic of China Dragon was in the Swedish orchid society magazine and that one was much redder then the one in this pic.
I couldn't find a pic online that showed that same red.![]()
Gilda, you HAVE to take pics when they bloom for you!
Are they hard to take care of?

Dana, I think there's a pic in one of the old Orchid Digest Magazines, and that's the one I'm thinking of. Or, just a discussion about how when they first hybridized the heck out of besseae, some hybrids were better award winners than others, and China Dragon was the better over Ruby Slippers (which is besseae x caudatum). I could have just been assuming that meant CD was more red. Well here's a couple links below - you decide.![]()
Gilda, you have two? Smart girl!
China Dragon
Ruby Slippers
Kinda hard to say which I prefer.Probably China Dragon. I prefer the long petals on CD, but also like the fat little pouch on RS.
