heating pads

Hi,
Have any of you tried the plant heating pads which, I understand, increases root growth? I would appreciate your input.

We've used them in the GH for rooting hard wood cuttings, but I would be very careful with orchids. They have a tendency to dry out the plant and you would need to check the moisture content more frequently than usual.

I have never seen them used for orchid plants. Perhaps when first transferred into compots?

I`´ve heating pads only under Dendrobium antennatum, stratiotes , spectabile , bicaudatum , lasianthera and Paphis in the winter.
They don´t want to dry out completly and don´t want to have cold roots and at night the temperature is below 18 ° C.

It´s for my quiet conscience the plants not to cool out on my windowsill .

I had a thought once that a small heating pad under a humidity tray might work for plants that require that extra bit of moisture. Of course you would have to monitor the water level closely. I might even get round to trying it one day.

I have heard of people using heating pads under seedling orchids. I *think* I remember Tim (Bench72) posting a thread about doing that, but may be mistaken.

That's what I have done for my recently deflasked seedlings, it is winter and I want them to be warm enough so they keep on growing ...

This is the heat pads I have set up for the flasks that are going to be here early winter.There are three pads and I can plug in what I need at the time.The flasks are Odon'ts and they do best if they keep growing and do not get stalled with a cold snap.It went down to 19f last year and thats to cold for any seedlings without heat undes them.

A woman I know who used to grow Phals from the flaskling stage, used heating pads for very young ones out of flask, at least in the winter when her basement was cooler. (All her plants were in her basement.)

I used heat pads on all plants I switch to S/.H They stay on them for 4 to 8 weeks they get misted automaticly 2 times a day for 1 min. light 13 hours. Below is picture of new roots after 3 weeks. It's amazing what happens by 6 or 7 weeks I keep the temp at 78 degrees
