Cymbidium won't flower

I hope you can help. I have a cymbidium that I have had for over two years and I have not been able to get it to flower. Any suggestions?

Do you allow the cym to cool down? Many cyms require a significant drop in temps to initiate spikes. We have a few that we have to leave outside until the first light frost.

Thanks Bruce....I didn't know about the cooling down. I guess I need to do more reading up on my Cymbidium. Thanks for the help.

Chuck, repot that cymbidium this spring and use some fresh orchid medium. Works for me every time. It will bloom next year. And, as Bruce said, the cooling down is important.

Oh, and one other thing. You must have humdity when those spikes come out, otherwise every bud will drop before they open. It's tough in the northeast due to the dry winter air. You must have a humidifier.

I bought 2 cymbidium's form a guy in California, he said he dug and divided a clump in his yard. When I got them the roots were begining to rot. I ended up cutting almost all the roots off and putting them in the smallest pots possible. I had them outside till the nights got down into the high 30's. I then put them in the basement that was about 58 them. They both sent out spikes. The pink one bloomed nicely and the other turned brown when it was about 6 inches long. I didn't think they would bloom at all because of the lack of roots.

Maybe you need a larger pot. I had excellent blooms on mine this year.
