Here is a look at the roots. Yuck.


I cleaned it up and put it in filtered water from the fridge (let stand overnight to get to room temperature). I accidentally split the pseudobulbs apart while cleaning out the roots.


I always think if there is some green, there is hope. What do you think?

Now that I'm looking at this, I think this is a cym and not an onc. Gosh, I can't believe I'm still confused between those two without the blooms to tell them apart.

No, I think your first impression was correct. Looks like an oncidium.
