New Bambino-urbanianum

This was a freebie that I got with some other plants. It was a NOID, but the seller thought it was Paph. urbanianum. Looks like he was right. It was shipped bare root with the flower ready to burst . I thought for sure that the bud would blast. I stuck it in a pot and this is what happened:



The spike is all wonky, but the plant seems very happy so far. It's a cutie .

Oh, it is cute, Susan. I really like the stripes. I checked on the Orchidspecies website and this is the orchid they had for paph urbanianum: IOSPE PHOTOS

Not sure if they are the same or not. I would keep it in any case. It is lovely!

wow, that is the best urbanianum I have seen! you may find the petals will do it's natural reflex more as it ages... but the colour is superb!

P. urbanianum was named after Ms. Jacinta Urban, an orchid nursery owner in Manila, by Dr. Jack Fowlie in 1981.

This is a beauty! I like paphs alot, but don't have one yet. I'm not sure if I can enjoy having paphs here in SF. So far I know only one greenhouse that have paphs but not for sale.

Wow, thank you for the information . I didn't realize it was named so recently. A Paph expert friend of mine did confirm that it is urbanianum. The markings on the staminode are quite distinctive.
