I have an Oncidium intergenerics that has 4 growths in one of its pbs. They are only over 1 inch tall now but all of them are growing vigorously. I have a Grammatophyllum elegans in sphag and bag that is showing 3 nodes in one pb, and when I peeled off the protective sheath of the rhizome I saw others, smaller ones, I call them reserve growths. I also have Dendrochillum (sp??) backbulbs that have developed nodes even though both the 2 leading nodes have died. I have Bulbo dearei backbulbs that I have yet to find out if it has reserve "eye" or nodes because the leading nodes are dead.
What I think is some orchids don't have reserve nodes, one example is Psychopsis, ( I think). While some others have multiple reserve growths in store in case the leading one dies. I have only seen one growth developed fully at a time. If the four growths of the Oncidium will all develop to full maturity, it will be my first observation. But I have a very small collection and very limited experience,I would love to hear also what others have obeserved about their plants.
