im totally impressed with your edelweiss, how on earth do you grow em in low altitudes?
or is it some kind of hybrid suited for low lands?

i cant even remember when i saw my last one in the alps at around 2000 mtr and they were rare by that time already!

Hello , thank you for compliments

They are offsprings from the originalplants and not difficult when you give them the right cultivation.

They needs full sun and limestone.
The feets want to have it moist under the limestones.
I´m watering in the evening by very hot weather and in two time of the year I spread limepowder over the area . That´s all what I do for it.

In the hood is gentiana clusii , called Enzian .
I want to show it when it blooms in ca.two weeks.

Andrea you are doing great with it!!! I tryed growing edelweiss only once. After I saw one in the wild blooming on a rock I loved it. Soon after that one guy was selling some in pots and in bloom. I just couldn't resist and bought one. Poor thing was history shortly after that. I only managed to cut the flower and dryied it in one book. I still have it and I am thinking of putting it in a frame with black or dark red background.

you make it sound so easy to grow this species, i guess you add a little of your special magic to the limepowder

and i cant wait to see the "enzian", another favorite which brings back memories, for me those are our "alpine orchids"!!!

well at least you gave it a shot and you did a good job of drying it out in a book, thats what people usually do when they find em in the wild, grrr..
i can imagine you fell in love when you saw it for the first time, it is truely a lovely flower, soooo velvety with all those fine tiny white/silver hairs on it.

as you said, frame it and its still lovely.
