ANTS in orchid pot!!

Hello orchid lovers!
What do you do to get rid of ants in orchid pot? I was given a pot with oncidium (giver believed) and nexd day found a lot of little ants caring eggs under that pot. What to do now? Thanks god I didn't bring that pot inside the house...

I recently had a small ant problem, and used a solution of water, two drops of dish detergent, and Neem oil. I removed the plant from the medium, and soaked the roots in this solution, and then repotted. Thankfully, so far, so good.

If the plant is outside, you can pour a poison through the medium to kill them. If this is a new addition, it is always advisable to repot and make sure the roots system is doing alright. The time for surprises is now, not after you fall in love with the new plant.

What can I do if there are ants on my budding spikes? I'm reluctant to use the neem solution as it may cause the buds to drop.

budding spikes sometimes produce a sweet excretion (dew) this attracts ants and they should not be harmful to the buds

Aggravating ants .I have a running battle with them when we get a lot of rain they try to move into the green house to set up a colony (In a pot ) I use Antrol or Revenge bait, but it is sweet and will grow black sooty mold in high humidity . Physan diluted poured thru the pot will kill them . Gin

I agree! But you can be VERY harmful... I learned that the hard way because I didn't ask on thime... I killed two spikes with the ants... Just don't do anything and let the buds open.
