Phalaenopsis Spiking in Melbourne

Hi folks,

after only a week that I've joined the Forum, and complaining that my phals would not flower in Melbourne; GUESS WHAT...??? I just noticed that one of my phalaenopsis is developing a Flower Spike.....WooHooo! I waited a couple of days to be sure, now it's apparent, although it's still a tiny little thing.
...I think it's not light nor temperature that triggered the flower spiKe this time, but it was joining the OrchidTalk Forum!

I wish we could say that it was because you joined OrchidTalk! heheh.. that woud be awesome, but I suspect it is the good care you give your orchids already. I look forward to seeing the buds and blooms.

Thanks everyone, and thanks BD; I've got two phals spiking now!
I know, I've been doing everything possible to make them flower, but I am so happy that it happened in the week that I joined the forum, coz it was really my last call!!
Amongst things that I did: I've shifted to a high potassium ferliliser compared to a high nitro that I was using before, I've increased the light level just by raising the shelf they're on to the level of the sill, and finally I did give them a 'temperature shock' by leaving them outside for a few weeks earlier in May. I don't know whether that helped, coz they are as well two of my most mature phals that are spiking now compared to the other ones. Well, I'll post some pics soon, at least of the spikes, and we'll have to wait a little bit longer for the blooms...

Some picture updates of my phals which are spiking: The flower spikes have now reached 2cms approximately and seems that there is still a long way to go before we can see the buds; However the excitement is great as these are seedlings from an hybrid that I've created and registered already under the name of Noces d'Or (Golden Jubilee in French), and that are going to flower for the first time here.
Some of the seedlings left behind in Mauritius have already bloomed in 2007, and I brought 12 plants in Australia, 7 died in Quarantine which means that I have only five plants left that I really consider as my babies!

awww, would it really be false advertising? after all, joining the forum is educational and hence translates to both additional attention and understanding of the orchids

so yes, it really is because you joined the forum...

hmm... that or because I said earlier to get rid of the lot and put Paphs in those windowsills instead


oh and btw, well done Eric! Can't wait to see them blooms!
