den signatum babies got a problem?

HI I am being a pain again, My den signatum babies appear to have a problem I checked them this morning and found these black patches on the leaves and yellowing at the edges of some of the leaves there are definately no bugs on it we have checked and it has been in a bottle with a lid with the bottle cap off for some air flow, as I recieved them in april as recently deflasked babies, they have been growing well up to now, Obviously my main worry is a virus. The dark patches are firm but slightly sunken they are not really close enough to the light to get burnt as they are protected by other orchids, they havent been fed as I thought they were too young they are kept in intermediate temps with humidity around 60% outside the bottle unsure what it is inside. Any ideas what the problem is and what I can do about it, also I am wondering if they are ready for their own pots, they seem to have strong root growth and until these patches had been thriving and have grown well. thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

Hi Carrie, my suggestion better you cut the black/ yellow patches, begin to separate them to individual pot. To say virus/ fungal/bug bit difficult. You can spray with anti fungal or whatever you like later. Right now you need to isolate them, through my observation this thing very infectious. Good luck Carrie for the nice species.

Carrie, I am not an expert, but I think your babies need more air circulation. I would take them out of the bottle and pot them in individula pots for good air circulation.

Carrie, I think Zainal has given you the best advice. I would remove that leaf (or at least the bad part, but I'd probably go for the whole leaf.... then again, I don't know enough to even give any advice, but that never stopped me before, right? LOL), and then I'd isolate this one and watch it carefully. Except for that one leaf, the plant appears to be happy and healthy. I don't think it's a circulation issue at all, especially since that leaf is near the top and out of the bottle.

Like I said, I really don't know enough to even give advice on this, but Zainal's advice looks very wise to me, and it certainly can't hurt to isolate this plant, just to be sure.

Hopefully, it's nothing too serious. I know how you baby your babies, so I know it's been well cared for.

I bet it is fungal since they are in that little jar. They may be staying too wet after watering?? I agree with the above comments. Time to move those guys into their own pots.

Okay so first line of defence is to get them out of the bottle, treat with fundicide and pot up individually, I will see if I can cut off any infected areas but the yellowing is quite extensive, Is there a specific chemical that would be best to treat them? I have a rose fungicide I have used in the past with no ill effects and do I spray them or give them a dunk in the solution? They get watered by standing in a tray of water as the clay balls wick up the water but it is possible the humidity has got a bit high in there I guess, I just dont want to lose these little guys. If you don't want to lose this guy you better just follow what I am doing in the photos below. Here we go. This is dendrobium bifalce 3 weeks ago got yellow and black spots I just cut this guy few minutes ago. Through my experience my den macrophyllum very huge one got multiples yellow spots, I refuse to cut the leaves finally all the leaves dropped leaving ugly pbulb.Regretted forever...

Carrie, you are not going to loose them! Don't worry! As I said before, I am not an expert (I only have experience with 11 flasks) but I wouldnt cut any leaves on this babies. They are still learning how to survive on their own after leaving the perfect sterile enviorment. These leaves are going to fell anyway. I would just repot and spray some fungicide (not too strong) and let them grow. Give them air and not too much light (I have mine same as phals). When they get bigger start moving them little by little to increase the light (that will be months from now).

Margo, I see your point but if i do not remove the infected areas as best as I can the fungus in the tissues is likely to spread I think, Fungal issues in such young plants is not good news but its better than a virus, my main worry is I havent hardened them off yet, they have been in a very humid environment ( the ones that werent nearly all died) So I dont know how best to approach it or what medium to repot them into. I also dont have any really tiny pots, I knew after I had bought them I had made a mistake as I dont know much about such young fragile plants. It was the grower who gave me instructions about the clay its in and the bottles but not what to do with them to pot on and when, it seems a bit early to expose them so much especially after losing some of my others, Ugh I am really confused LOL next time i say I want babies someone please slap me!
