Range is the best clue. Given your location, more likely a Carolina Chickadee than a Black-capped Chickadee.

I agree with your assessment. Looks like a Carolina chickadee. We have lots of them on the Gulf Coast.
If they hang around your yard and get used to you, they will eat out of your hand, especially if their feeder is empty.
Kind of an interesting thing I remember reading once about chickadees: The more 'dees' in their call (chick-a-dee-dee-dee-dee for example) the more dangerous the predator or the closer the predator. However, if the predator is super close, they will make no sound and just duck down. Now when I hear a chickadee, I count the 'dees' and wonder if I'm the reason for the warning call.![]()
They are wonderful little birds! Their 'chick-a-dee-dee-dee' sounds like children laughing to me.
