1. lower leaves on phals generally turn yellow and fall off as the plant matures. If upper leaves start turning yellow, then there is likely a root problem.

2. Overwatering happens when you keep your orchid's roots too wet. With your phal in this bark mix, you should be able to water your orchid once a week. When you water, lift the pot and feel the weight. Then, in one week, lift the pot and feel the 'dry' weight. Also, try sticking your finger down into the medium to test for moisture. Phals don't want to dry completely out, but should not be 'wet' either. It is better to error on the side of drying out than staying too wet.

3.See attached image below.

Cut the bloom spikes off about one inch above the base of the plant. This will let your orchid grow new leaves and roots. Next year, when your plant is ready to bloom again, another spike will come out from the base of the plant as these two did.

Yes, you can seal the cut with a jell if you wish. It should be fine without too.

I think the orchid looks normal. The yellow is probably just natural die off, but like I mentioned it could be due to over-watering. Let the orchid dry out more and see how it goes.
