At least for me, half of joy of growing orchids is getting them to bloom. To easy and I lose interest in the plant. Nothing like the feeling for getting that really difficult plant to thrive and bloom regularly.

Nope, I only buy what I know I should be able to bloom
Yes, but only ones like jewel orchids since they have such great foliage.
Once in a blue moon I get weak and give in to temptation and take a walk on the wild side
Yes, but only with orchids whose needs are close to those I presently bloom.
I LOVE to take risks! You never know -- I might succeed!

I like to try almost everything...those darned vandas! ARGH!
I voted for the last option, because that was closest to "my orchids chose me". Not that that was their best decision ever....
I outgrew (pun intended) the risk taking long ago. Now I focus on things I know I can grow. I tend to be very selective, which sometimes means more expensive plants that I don't want to have die on me.

I am still learing alot about growing and blooming orchids. I tried hots with total failure and inters with small sucess. I now realise that it is the cools I'm best with! So the answer is I've taken chances but now I'm more selective
Most of mine are orchids that I should be able to bloom (Bulbophyllum, Catts, Paphs and Catasetum) but I have a Masdevallia and a Coelogyne mooreana that I am really hopeful about. We'll see...
I am almost exclusively a rescue buyer. So far, I haven't lost a single plant in two years. I do have a Miltoniopsis I got that is just an unhappy little fella, I don't know if I can provide him the humidity he'll need to stay alive--maybe I went too far afield with this one.

Well, like beginner I am in that phase of ignorance or daring of wanting to try everything that bewitches me and I can buy.
And when I say everything I refer to "without restrictions". That cannot be very wise perhaps.
But the pleasure of growing orchids is so big that I adore them even if one or other one does not give me his lovely flowers.
I am ill of thinking that I can kill someone. But, for miracle, that still did not happen.
Then I choose the last alternative![]()
For the most part I stick with the easy ones. Once in a blue moon though I'll try something interesting.
Ive had nothing but good luck(and beautiful plants)from my"rescues"!
