    Default C. Portia sheath question

Okay, so I just noticed these buds coming out of my C. Portia 'Zuei Nang' and what puzzles me is that there was no sheath. I tried looking further down but could not see any, whereas previous blooms had the sheath. Is this normal? Please see attached photos of an old p-bulb.

Marissa...yes there are times mine will have sheaths and other times none. It is a primary cross of Cattleya bowringiana and Cattleya labiata.

Yes, Marissa, I agree with Ron. What I have noticed is, this is common in bifoliates, but my unifoliates always have a sheath. By the way whats that white stuff in the first pic? Looks like mealy bugs, hope its not.

I looked at the plant again and I saw the white stuff but I think it's something from the cockatiels since I did not see any mealy.
