New Howera Lava Burst Orchid Owner

I received a Howera Lava Burst orchid as a gift and have no idea how to take care of it. I don't know what specific type of orchid it is so have no idea of how much water it needs and what temperature it needs. I live in NH.

Any advice from all you experts would be appreciated.

I don't have any of this type, which I believe is an intergeneric in the Oncidium family. Generally, if it is potted in bark, allow the bark to almost dry before watering again. If the pseudobulb starts to shrivel, increase watering a bit. That said, too little water is easier to fix that too much water. They tend to rot. In NH, it will need to be inside this time of year as they do not do well with low temperatures (low 50s are about as low as I would go). I hope that helps.

Thanks for all the input. We tend to keep our home fairly cool during the New England winters due to the cost of fuel. We have a bathroom with a skylight that is heated in the AM but not the rest of the day. Might get down to 50 degrees at night. Is that too cold?

That should be alright if the temp doesn't stay 50 or below for many hours. Since it is heated in the AM and doesn't go below 50 at night, I would not worry.
