Have a couple indoor orchids that the leaves are shriveling up look like little river valies seen from an airplane. Any guess what may be causing it?
Thanks,

Roscoe,
How about a picture?
With problems up top, look down below. Pop your 'chid out of his pot and soak the roots in tepid water for about 10 minutes. Roots that plump up and turn green are good, live roots. Roots that stay shriveled, or are squishy, are goners. Trim the dead, rotted roots from the plant, give the remaining roots a soak in hydrogen peroxide ad re-pot the orchid. If you had a lot of dead roots to remove, you may want to put it into a smaller pot.
...and if your roots are okay, and it's an oncidium type....try watering a little more often. I'm bad with my oncids... sometimes I underwater them and it'll make the leaves pleat up.
I'll get a picture in the AM and post it
Thanks so much,
Roscoe
can't figure out how to post a pic on here. Did like you all said soaked the roots they are grayish white and firm. The orchid is a Jungle Elf
Roscoe, photos on here need to be 700 pixels or smaller to load. Use whatever photo program you have to resize a copy of the shot you want to post and sve it into a file on your desktop or in your documents folder. Then go down below this reply box and click on "Go Advanced". Type in a message, then scroll down below the box to "Manage Attachments". A box opens that lets you browse for files on your computer and upload. Once the photo file has uploaded, go back to your advanced message box and at the top of the message box click on the paper clip symbol next to the white smilie face symbol. Your uploaded photos should be there waiting to be loaded into the message. Have fun with it! Sounds like your plants root system is good so it should be able to take up water. Now we need to know how you water and how often you water and what the orchid is planted in (Bark, Moss, clay pellots, lava rock?)
They are planted in a mixture or inert pellets and bark. The nursery where I get it call it bark light. Go figure.
I water once a week in the early morning. Have fans on them too
How do you water? Set them in a pot of water to soak for 5 to 10 minutes, then drain a bit before putting them back in place? Just pour a half cup or so of water on them where they are sitting?
no I put them in the tub water them and let them drain for about 15 min then put them back in the window. (have led grow lights over them too)
