    Roscoe,

    I think you have a Dendrobium that's in trouble.

    It looks like your potting mix is a mixture of fine bark and ProMix or some similar peat based planting medium. Personally I don't like this mix at all. Professional growers use it because it's cheap and holds a lot of water, thus cutting down on their watering frequency and cost.

    It's very hard to water correctly. If you water too often the roots rot because it's a very dense mix. If you don't water enough, the mix dries out and is very hard to rewet.

    I think the roots are rotted from overwatering. You may want to repot it into a regular bark based mix. Water once a week, only, to encourage new root growth. Water from the top and thoroughly water. Let a lot of water run out of the pot. Leave it alone for a week. You should see new roots start in a few weeks.

    I would agree. The medium is too dense for Dendrobiums. They like to dry out between waterings and this medium won't allow that.
