Hi all,
Well, we had a vendor as our guest speaker at our local OS meeting this past weekend (January 17th). Although he spoke on Dendrobiums, this particular vendor is really a paph grower and he buys flasks and then grows them to saleable size. I looked through their list and chose 4 plants I liked, two of which were listed as seedlings (Laser X charlesworthii & Laser X Ruby Leopard) and two, (Pulsar X Clair de Lune) X sukhakulii and (Ruby Leopard X Voodoo Magic) X gratrixianum that were said to be blooming size. I made the mistake of phoning him to ask him a few questions and compounded the mistake by saying I liked vinis and he enthused about one called Hsinying Web. Somehow, I wound up adding it to my order, even though there was this really annoying little voice saying "And where do you think you're going to put them all?"
I dealt with the nagging voice by donating three reed-stem epidendrums to the club raffle--none have ever bloomed and they took up a *lot* of space. I was so pleased with the amount of space I would soon have that I somehow wound up sending the vendor an e-mail on the last day of the pre-order period and adding a wardii to my order! He offered a 10% discount on pre-orders.
Well, the plants I ordered were awesome and I somehow wound up picking up another seedling, Hsinying Web X Ruby Web and, even though I really don't consider bulldogs to be "my" paphs, I also picked up a Memoria Heinrich Duerbusch. The latter was a blooming sized plant, with two additional new growths! I just couldn't leave it. LOL Perhaps because I'd made a decent order allready, he gave me a couple of dollars off.
As the meeting was winding down, he'd sold most of the plants he'd brought, but I somehow wound up grabbing a second bulldog, Lippewunder. He said "Since you've already made such a big purchase, I'll knock off a couple dollars off." So, I'm really happy with the health of the plants, so I thought I'd share photos of them.
This is the Paph Memoria Heinrich Duerbusch.
You should be able to see the two new growths.
Here is the Paph Lippewunder
It, too, has a new growth.
Here are (Pulsar X Clair de Lune) X sukhakulii and (Ruby Leopard X Voodoo Magic) X gratrixianum.
The gratrixianum cross is on the left and the suhkakulii cross on the right. Both definitely look to be blooming sized, and the gratrixianum cross has two growths.
I will post some group photos separately.
Cheers,
Rob
