New orchids and advice needed on Schomb. (thompsoniana X humboltii)

I have a number of new plants this week...my first arrivals of the year. 6 came in the mail, 2 are rescues, and the other 3 are from a big box store...so thats kinda like a rescue. Please forgive my crummy backdrop, it's to dark and unpleasant to do outdoor pics. I need advice on how to plant up the Schomb. shown below also.

Here are the 6 that came in the mail:

I need advice on how you all think I should pot this guy up...or cork/tree mount? Not sure what to do with him so he will be happy:

Two plants I rescued from a local nursery for free (can't beat free). I normally don't get phals but this poor sucker had no soil, was upside down and had tons of nasty roots. I trimmed him up, potted him up and am watching a spike grow!

These next few I got at a big box store, they had tags but were kinda dry so I repotted and watered them.

Very Nice. Though I have yet to acquire a Schomburgkia, the ones I have seen have all been mounted. However my orchid book says they can be potted in large pots with course mix. Good luck!

The Schomburgkias I have are in either terra cotta orchid pots or slat baskets with a course mix.

I have only one Schomb and it is potted like a cattleya in a clay pot in bark mix. Nice new additions!!

I noticed on the plant (Schomb.) he had it in charcoal and aliflor. I may try that in a clay pot and hang it up. I have a spot that should work for it.

I also noticed a few sheaths on some of the new plants....particularly the Yam. and possibly even that Schomb.

I have about 4 or 5 encyclias I hope to get next week too!!

Okay, so I repotted it in the exact same mix the grower had...aliflor and charcoal. The only thing is this was the smallest orchid pot I had left and it seems a tad bit big, but all the potting medium is going to be really well drained. I have packing peanuts at the bottom, a layer of charcoal then multiple layers of aliflor and charcoal. I steadied it with a pot clip and a bamboo stick.

If you think the pot is to large please let me know.



I am going to hang it up with a metal clip-on clay pot hanger.

Shan. scrom is very huge plant make sure you put into large clay pot, use the same media as used before, the new pbulb very healthy, to me the pot that you used is so nice, all the best.

Now I need to get all my orchids back outside tomorrow...finally!

I have a schomb thomsoniona (no P ) mounted on cork with some clay pellets stuck randomly through the roots and it is thriving. It likes it dry.
I know they really hate to have their roots disturbed once acclimated, they can sulk for years!
