They grow orchids? I didn't know that.
Nice! Congrats.
WOW!!! That is a brilliant display! I love how it is so simple that it doesn't detract from the orchids themselves! Mind you, those orchids are absolutely brilliant! I keep focusing on that vinicolour Paph...
Well done Louis/Bruce...
Cheers
Tim
by the way Maggie, thanks for sharing that great pic!
I can't decide which one I like the most - they're all spectacular! Congrats RVO-guys!
Julie
Congrats RVO team! Nice display!
Thanks, you guys!
Maggie, that's a better pic than we have!
Simplicity seems to be the order of the day these days. There were lots of other exhibits with mind-blowing, huge plants that got passed over, and seriously, I was actually blown away that we received anything at all, the competition was so fierce. Incredible exhibits, specimen plants of such size they needed conservatories of space to house and grow them; I'm not kidding.
That all said, size is definitely *not* the deciding factor where judging is concerned, though it makes for the most ooohs and ahhhs with the general public. Maggie, I don't know if you have a pic of Marilyn's floor exhibit, but if you do, you should post it; Marilyn LeDoux of Windy Hill received the most and most amazing kudos with an exhibit that shows off not only her incredible skill with orchids, especially Phrags, but her sense of placement and form as well. I, as well as most of the US orchid "world," look at Marilyn's accomplishments with an incredibly deep humility and respect--her ability is something amazing to strive for....
Louis, after speaking with my sister in Colorado, you are right. With the Denver show, simple always wins. Some displays have massive amounts of flowers where she is at and the smaller more simplistic displays always win.
She said the judges in the midwest like it simple.....I did not make that up. She was told by other societies and judges.
It's out west you need Texas style displays to win. Go figure.
Louis I'm just happy the pic was decent. I'm a novice with my digital camera and just never know how it's going to come out.
You're right about simplicity, too! I managed to get a so/so pic of her exhibit and the winning Phrag. China Dragon along with the beautiful trophy. Perhaps you know more about the quality of the award than I do? All I can say is the awards were coveted by all who saw them. Outstanding!
Without further ado...

Thanks, Maggie!
You're pics are terrific - don't knock your dig. camera skills! That trophy is stunning, as are Marilyn's phrags. The RVO display still rocks, however. Thanks for the pictures!
