This is a diminutive species, in fact it is the smallest of all the multilforal Paphiopedilum species. Mine bloomed for the first time on a 6 inch leafspan growth. It is also a moderately fast grower and grows quickly into many clumps.

Excellent plant, Pete! How do you grow yours? I've had mine for years and it has sulked ever since I got it. It clumps all right, but it doesn't like to grow roots or mature growths.
Pete, very nice! I've never seen one of those before. Plant looks good and sturdy too!
Hmmmmm... I do like that one. I like the colors, stripes, shape and compact nature. Peter, how would you rate that for a beginner's first multifloral? All I have right now are mottled leaf maudie types...
Máire
Thanks, Jason,
I too had trouble growing it in the beginning but I soon found out that it likes to be on the dry side more so than most multilforal Paphs.
Maire, I don't know your growing conditions so I really cannot tell. You can try one but most growers (including myself in the beginning) have trouble growing it. But once you get the conditions right, then it is a moderately fast grower. Hope this helps!
Lovely as always!
Thanks, Heather! Since you're space limited, this is the perfect multifloral Paph species to get.![]()
But it is a little difficiult to grow though, if not grown in the right conditions but they do stay small and cute.
Allright, you - let's just reign it in there w/ the suggestions. One species at a time please. Oh, and yes, haynaldianum is my first. Besides - I thought that you guys were after me to get warscewiczianum! Make up your mind, huh?
Really, I have to hold out for something w/ long petals.
Heather, you should get a warscewiczianum if you really like the long long petals of the Phrags.
A little correction/lesson (however you want to put it), species are always in lower case and hybrids are in upper case for example:
Paphiopedilum lowii ------> species
Paphiopedilum Berenice --------> hyrbid
Ah, so you are also a spelling snob? Geesh.I am totally kidding. I got that about the species yesterday, but had a memory lapse apparently. I did not, however, know that if it was a hybrid, it was capitalized. Very interesting.
Ahhh, the confusing world of orchid growing.
