Should I leave this alone or nip the end off as I have seen others do?

I would leave it alone, I have lost many blooms just due to my impatience. I think the sheath helps protect the developing buds from dessication. Only if you see that the buds have developed ( a fat plump sheath) and are still unable to break open, give it a cut, but at this moment, leave it alone.

Thanks so much! Patience is not one of my virtues but with orchids you must have lots of patience.

Very good advice. I have ruined several by not being patient enough.

I have had to wait for a couple months for progress on this, so take a deep breath and do nothing....seems crazy but...the orchid knows what it's doing?/!!
