I'm confused a little because I thought that those roots were supposed to be exposed. I thought those were aerial roots? correct me if I'm wrong because I'm only a novice grower. Any extra advice is warmly welcomed.

well, you can leave the roots exposed, but a higher humidity level is needed then.
i think the keiki isnt ready yet to be removed, better wait for more healthy roots.

thanks so much for the advice...I'm going to just repot it the way it is, and keep my fingers crossed. I had no idea about the exposed roots needing more humidity. Which, is something I just can't provide at the moment.
I AM enjoying learning more and more about orchids. It is becoming a full time passion of mine!

How completely intimidating....BUT despite the intimidation factor, I managed to re-pot my orchids...I didn't have any charcoal or coconut husks...Had to make do with what my little island here provides. Medium grade Orchid Bark.
I loosely packed it...hope I didn't kill my babies!!! thanks Bruce for the video...it gave me what tiny little amount of confidence needed to embark on this journey

Well as of this weekend...the mama crown is officially dead...looking as if the young keiki is on its own..it must've sucked the life right out of the already dying mother. Is the keiki next? the roots are still very new and small...I don't think seperating it would be good either but its living off of a dead mother...what to do?
