Did a search for Kagawara Diinesh Gold as has been suggested and by what the parents are. The following link should show that Kgw Sandys Gold IS

Ron, you can, along with the many others that grow it. If I can locate a plant I will be putting the right name on it. I dislike incorrectly or un named plants.

Thanks Roy for the additional info on the 'two' kagawaaras'. I first saw Diinesh Gold at the Penang International Show in 2005 Where it won the 'Best Plant in Show'. I immediately rushed out to one of the stalls selling orchids and bought a young plant. When it flowered a year later the bright orange colour was there but it had very pronounced spots. A good friend and very experienced orchid grower said that mine was not Diinesh Gold but 'Sandys Gold'.

I am posting 2 photos of the above two plants. The first pix is of Kgw Diinesh Gold taken at the Penang Orchid Show. Sorry for the blurred pix as it was taken with a tele lens hand-held from about 20ft away. You can see it was an awesome plant and there were only very fine spots (as far as I could see). And 'yes' it was that vibrant orange.

The second pix is of my plant the 'Sandys Gold'.

Are they both the similar plants?

catttan, the second pic I can believe is "sandys gold" but the first one is more greatly colored though from the parents this is quite possible. Both are very, very nice.
Rons plant seems to be one that has been cloned and sold everywhere whereas these two could be one off clones. As we have learnt, Sandys Gold is a local name I believe.

Yes Roy, it is a local name(Malaysia).

I discussed this post with a few orchid friends and one of them had this story to tell. It seems that at one of the shows this guy registered his 'Diinesh Gold' for competition and the competition clerk pointed out to him it didn't look the same as the one that had won in Penang. He insisted that it was 'Dinesh Gold' and the show chairman allowed it to be registered remarking, jokingly, " If there's any controversy we'll just call it Sandy's Gold." ( Sandy was the nickname of the guy).And Sandys Gold came into being - used for all subsequent plants that did not look like the original one in Penang. I can't vouch for the truth of this story but it sounds plausible.

i can see clearly the differencers of those 2. 'diinesh gold' has much stronger renanthera features, look at the sepals/petals and the way it sprays out.
whereas 'sandy's gold' has lesser blooms, rounder and pointing in all directions.
as for the story, sounds very plausible to me.

i agree with roy, we both have probably clones from the original 'diinesh gold'. yours is more spotted and nice too!

Yew, Ron, this is an interesting topic. It highlights the problems many growers encounter with incorrect names on plants they buy. The variations in the flowering could simply be from the crossing. Once you cross a Renanthera ( open stary flowers ) with any Vanda, Ascda etc with filled in flowers, the results can go to either parent or mid way in flower shape, color, number of flowers etc. Its possible all are Diinesh Gold but just different seedlings that follow different sides of the parentage. Whether the original Diinesh Gold was every m/cloned or not is in question.
