Dammaged Growing Tip

Hi All,

Yesterday whils repotting one of my Catteleya, i accidently broke off the new growth. It has another one on another side of the plant, but i will be interested to know if it will regrow from the same place or have a i killed that eye? Very upset with myself.

That particular eye is not likely to regrow, but it may have back-up eyes and put out another from near the same area. Just have to wait and see.

Oh I hate when I do that. I was cleaning up a cymbidium on Sunday and pulled out a new growth and then turned around and did it again! argh!! haha... Good news is like Susan posted in her response - most likely it will grow a new lead very near where you damaged the other one from a 'backup' eye. I hope it does for you, Stephen!

I feel your pain. You could always go get a new one for ...emotional support?

I did that to my first one. I had it in the window and went to water and accidentally bumped it, and snapped it. It went and shot out new growth almost right away and started to try to, "catch up," I'd say. Its sister on the other hand isn't so lucky she got rot after re-potting and hasn't made much leeway since. She was a beautiful lavender one that was in a 6" pot and now won't even fit into a two incher without staking.
