This is one of my favorite multifloral Paph hybrids. Easy to grow and blooms reliably every year. This picture was taken a couple of years ago.

Oh, that is a beauty! Who are the parents? Great combination of color and freckles. Love it!
Thanks!
The parents are lowii x philippinense. I have posted pics of my philippinense here in the display area and I think they are still there. I think it's a beautiful combination, don't you think? Paph Lebaudyanum (haynaldianum x philippinense) is even prettier with more spottings from the haynaldianum parent. I don't have that hybrid but if I had the room, I would definitley get one.
I figured either Lowii or Haynaldianum (hey check it out! I didn't copy and paste that time!) was one of the parents. Love the curliness from Phillipinense coming into play there. Sigh - long petaled paph/phrags....![]()
Suncoast (ebay people I have bought a lot from) has a B.S. Paph. Berenice up on their site today. Going for $29.95.
I think yours is way prettier! This one doesn't have the nice curl to the petals (at least their pic.)
Yes, since Berenice is a primary hybrid, some may look different than the others. I have seen some with shorter petals, some longer, some with almost straight and very twisted petals like mine. So, if you like the curly ones, look for the curly ones.
Pete I do believe that all of them are your favorites. You always say that each picture is one of your favorites. Just let the cat out of the bag and admit it :P.
pretty bug, you have successfully entered the mind of a paphnut. All paphs are favorites. Nice Berenice, Peter, it really is a lovely hybrid that will find its way into my collection someday. I'd sound like a broken record if I tried extolling the virtues of all multifloral hybrids in sections Coryopedilum (roths et al.) & Pardalopetalum (lowii, parishii, etc.)
There is quite a bit of variation with Berenice, mostly with regards to petal stance. Most are pendent to some degree, but a few hold them nearly horizontal. If you ask me, a Berenice oughta have pendent petals and those who like horizontal petals oughta get a Julius.![]()
Pete, very well done again. I know I'm starting to sound like a broken record here (huh? wuzzat?) but really, your pics and growing are something.
Thank you all for the nice compliments, I really appreciate it!
After the multifloral Paph group, my second favorites Paphs are the Cochlopetalum group (sequential bloomers). I have Paph moquettianum and victoria-regina and they seem to bloom forever.
