Scary little bugs

I'm doing the heeby jeeby dance right now. I just tossed a very ailing keiki that I was hanging on to because it was my first orchid. The second to last leave just dropped and I saw teeny tiny slithery busy bodied little bugs in the very center of the crown...like under where the leave dropped
I NEVER saw these little monsters until that leave dropped. Can I assume that my other phals have them too??? I'm still have the chills running up my spine. Do I have a scale prob on my hands??

Sounds more like a mealy bug problem.

Probably mealy bugs if they are moving around. Do they jump when you touch them or spray them with water?

I'll post some pics of them a little later....They are moving around quite fast actually. Its strange though, the old keiki I tossed seemed like it had DIFFERENT bugs. The ones I've found crawling around my other phals are tiny little black or multi-colored bugs. Now I'm really scratching my head. I'll be looking for malathyon here in the island. It's doubtful but I'm hopeful.

Hi Desiree, If you DO use Malathion, Please follow the directions,,,cover your self, and use rubber gloves, That stuff is bad news, but it WILL KILL the bugs! Cygon 2 E is also great to use on orchids. Gook luck...Betty

I'm fighting the bugs right now too...I hope you get yours under control. I have developed a whole new love for frogs, geckos' and anything else that eats bugs off my orchids.

Thanks Connie...what a buzz kill! 2 of my phals are in full bloom and of COURSE they are the ones seemingly affected. Let me know what works for you too. I can't have any cool frogs or geckos or ladybugs in the condo, but I CAN take them outside and treat them accordingly.

Betty, I've been reading up on Malathion..rest assured if I decide to use it, I'll be in full haz-mat gear...ok, maybe not, but I'll do my best to stay protected. That stuff is S-C-A-R-Y!
