Yeah some of these catts can grow quite large when left alone.
One of the drawbacks of a crowded catt is that each new pseudobulb ends up being very long and contorted as it tries to get on top of the older leaves to get more light.
Dividing it is a good approach.
If you want to keep a large catt as a specimen, then culling some of the old pseudobulbs would be the way to go to open up the inside.
