Though the bloom is very nice, the mislabeling is a real drag, Gin.
I sure hope it was a just a mistake on their part, and not a deliberate attempt to mislead. They themselves may have been misled by whoever is selling them flasks or young plants, so you may have done them a big favor by alerting them to the problem. Definitely post back on the outcome.
I don't think it was deliberate , my quarrel will be not taking care of a problem . I was told they have young people (Teens) doing the repotting ect . All I expect is an ID for the plant . Gin
I recieved a call from the seller . They said it is Paph. Julius . I looked on the internet and found several pictures some had a little diffrence to them and one was a ringer for it . A lowii X rothschildianum . Gin
Gin,
Congrats on the positive ID and good on Jason for the Lowii cross! Still a nice looking plant, whatever it is!
Julie
Ditto that.
Jason knows his Paphs, no doubt about it. Glad it worked out, Gin.
I don't mean to be a pest, but that does not look like a Julius to me. Julius typically has a very broad and "cleanly-striped" dorsal, and the staminode on yours is also very atypical for Julius. The cross is somewhat variable, but some elements are repeated over and over, and it just doesn't match to me. (I also did a search for Julius pics on the web and a few of them are not actually Julius).
The "knobby" nature of the stripes in the dorsal point me towards some haynaldianum component, or perhaps even something like esq x roths. Here are a few links to Houghtoniae (haynald x roths) and the still unnamed esq x roths hybrid.
Paph. (esquirolei x roths)
Paph. Houghtoniae
I personally would tell that vendor that it ain't no Julius and they have to do better than that. That's just my 0.02.
Oh no, Gin!
Here you go again...
Julie
PS - Take Jason shopping with you next time!
Thanks Jason you are not a pest . I appreciate your info . and would take you along any time .I put the pictures from the links side by side with mine and mine looked closer to the Houghtonia , I think the grower does not know and picked out a name for it to get rid of me . At this point I am going to name it ... Rip Off ! Think I will enter it in a show with thier name in front of it
Gin
well, personally if I feel like I'm getting ripped off, I either raise enough of a stink that something gets done, or at least I would do something to get even (like widespread defamation) that makes me feel better. come to think of it, I don't think I've done the latter yet...but hey, if they still don't admit to it and refund your money, it would be deserved so nobody else you know will risk a transaction.
