This is one of the easiest plants to grow and bloom in my culture. Most of the year it sits outside looking messy, and suddenly in late summer or early fall it pops out the most dramatic bloom spikes.
I know people tend these plants more carefully and they bloom at least twice a year for them. I should try this next year (or at least repot it for next year)

I never think twice about these guys- just throw them in a corner outside and throw some water at them, and then they put out these gorgeous blooms and I'm all "Oooooh and Aaaah" and feel I should have loved them more through the year!
What a beautiful display too.
