cattleya when will it bloom

I bought this Cattleya in the spring (no tags).

I re-potted it with medium fir bark, I've had three new shoots which have grown to the same size as the other stalks, i had fertilized every alternate watering throughout the growing period, i have this orchid facing the south window,when can i be expecting it to bloom? does it need a resting period? any helpful information is appreciated, this is my first post from Toronto.

To say when a Cattleya will bloom without knowing it's name is a tough guess. Different types bloom at different times of year. Most of my cattleya do like a dryer winter as the sun fades and days are shorter. But as long as your plant is in active growth you should continue to fertilize and water regularly. If it is growing well but not blooming I would try to find a way to give it more sunlight. Sunlight is usually the cause of no blooms.

I have also found that orchids NEED a 20 to 24 degree drop in temperature at night, to start spiking ( forming flowers ) Also, a blossom booster would really help, (10-30-20 ) when the growths are mature. Do these things, and you should get flowers soon...If it is indeed a cattleya, it does not need a rest period. Most cattleyas bloom in the Winter/early Spring.....Betty :-)

Most likely if it is growing well and not blooming - and it is mature enough to bloom - it is a lack of sufficient light. Increase the amount of light it gets and you will get some blooms. Post a photo and let us take a look at the leaves. If they appear dark green, it is not getting enough light. Good luck and welcome to our community.
