At my local Orchid Society we had a presentation on Phal species last week, with every one being shown , and lots of different examples of almost all of them, which demonstrated how much variation there can be in each - although not enough for both of the ones in this thread to be the same species. Actually, for some of the very rarest, there was only a pic of the herbarium specimen, or something like that. I have to admit that I had hardly seen more than say 10 of these - I think there are 50 + - before, and only ever grown half a dozen different ones.
I tend to get landed with the big colourful supermarket hybrids , which my wife buys often 3 at a time, as house decoration at times when I won't let any plants out of the greenhouse ( usually because a show is coming up) - and then after they have flowered, instead of being sensible and throwing the thing away - after all they are so cheap - I put it them in the greenhouse to grow on. And they don't do well in my greenhouse - probably not warm enough and too wet . I counted up the other day, and reckon there are about 60-70 of them. I'm still pondering what to do with them, now that I have recognised the situation....
