    Default Cattleya Sans famille

What is often called a NOID here ; in my greehouse usually called "Lost Label" , but the French expression - meaning "without family" amuses me, and I sometimes use it. The more linguistically challenged visitors to my greenhouse sometimes take it seriously... which is not really my thing.

Whatever ; not very big flowers , perfect for a buttonhole in the lapel of your suit, chaps. Come on, own up, who is wearing a suit ? How the world has changed - nowadays , being an old bloke and therefore old-fashioned, I sometimes put on a suit and wear a tie when we go to the theatre or a smart restaurant - then look around, and realise I am the odd man out in the whole room . ( Actually I did that in the Summer, at one of the London theatres, then found the only other man in the room wearing a suit was sitting next to me - we looked at each other and laughed - and btw it was the actor/filmstar Hugh E Grant - but then he too is a bit of an odd-ball.
How did I get to this point in my rambling ? Ah, I remember, when I used to go to my first Orchid Society, almost 50 years ago, we did wear suits and ties, and we did wear a flower in our button-hole. ( This one would have been perfect - just the right size, about 2 inch ). The Committee encouraged it , of course it had gone out of fashion in England 50 years before that, because it enabled complete strangers to go up to one another and start talking - an ice-breaker you might say. Made for a great atmosphere. I did suggest it to my current Society - and they looked at me as if I was mad ... I probably am......
