BD The Clitorea ternatea and its common name blue pea vine or butterfly pea was commonly grown in our gardens. In the old days before the days of artificial food colouring the flower was crushed and mixed with water and squeezed out to make blue food dye, particularly for a very traditional glutinous rice cake kuih teratai. Nowadays it is not so commonly grown as it is more convenient to use artificial dyes.It is supposed to originate from Tropical America.
