NOID miniature bulbophyllums

Recently, I bought 2 small sized bulbophyllums without knowing their names.

Can someone shed some light on their ID? I know that without flowers, its pretty hard to guess, but maybe someone can lead me to the right direction in my internet search


compare the bulbs to the size of the emersed java moss.


compare to the size of my palm.


the seed pod - 2mm length (probably can deduce that the flowering is a spike with multiple flowers)


This is one large one.....sorry, not miniature for this...

what is the aproximate size of the pbulbs on the first one? if they are smaller than 2cm, say.....1.5-1 cm , it is bulbo/Ichthyostomum pygmaeum

im not sure if its possible to get our natives outside of NZ but then again, Colenso did send quite a few back to england.

Biggest bulb at 1cm. According to the lady who owns the nursery, they are native to Malaysia.

so does the pics on the native sight look anything like this one? i think the leaves on the site look more indented, but the rest is very similar. i think the pygmaeum IS the smallest bulbo member, as it is the smallest orchid in the southern hemisphere as far as i am concerened.

I think the pic that you provided is smaller than what I have.

The plant on your first pic is certainly a bulbo. To me it looks like some species related to B. ovalifolium. It could be ovalifolium which is a very nice species but since it is from Malaysia it could also very well be a little stunner like B. stormii.

The second plant to me looks more like a liparis. But who can tell for sure. maybe someone that knows the exact species very well.

The third one is really an odd one, hard to tell. It could be a bulbo but there are also quite some Epigeneium species that look like this. And personally I would suggest its a Epigeneium.

Very exiting. Like a christmas present that opens real slooooowly.

I only wish that your native Bulbo. pygmaeum was in culture here in europe.
Seeing that species in nature would make a trip to New Zealand worth it

i dont know...... the flowers very rarely open up fully, mostly only partially for self pollination. but still, whole colonies can cover entire branches, even trunks of trees, a sight worth seeing. i am due to go to the bush an a couple of days, so i will see what i can find and post some pics.
If you are VERY lucky rogier, i may be able to get some seeds sown in sterile flasks, then ship them out to you. have no idea how long it will take or if i can even get it done as it is illegal here to cultivate native species, when it should be encouraged to preven extinction of some.
