Kathi - Lava Burst is georgeous, but rather more difficult...it has a Rodriguezia as one parent - I don't know if you are familiar with these ? twig epiphytes ; don't like being wet , hate being dry... need spraying to soak every dawn, drying out in the mid-day sun - that's what they get in nature; so difficult to replicate. I reccomend quite fine grade bark mix for these including the hybrid you have, the sort you might use for seedlings straight out of the flask. But I admit that I have been experimenting , trying two of these Lava Bursts, both in S/H one in Perlite and another using a baked clay material in the form of little balls - like large garden peasin the hope of doing better - if you google around you can find a pic of a Lava Burst with 8 spikes - like a firework going off- amazing - which set me off on my experiments..... Both of mine are still alive, maybe 8 or 10 weeks since I started, ( and with some of these difficult things that would count as a good start ! - but a new growth on one has stalled...
But worth persisting.
Good luck.
BTW I looked up the Bollopetalum - it is more than 3/4 zygopetalum , so if you can/have grown those, I would do the same with this.
