Do Oncidiums have only one blooming per pseudobulb?
When an Oncidium starts to form a pseudobulb, it may form up to two spikes at the same time (one on each side of the bulb). Next, the pseudobulb will form a new growth from which the next spike(s) will come.
So, yes, technically one blooming per pseudobulb, but one blooming could be two spikes.
Hope that helps.
Thank you both. This is something newbies need to know: psuedobulbs only bloom once per PB. Then, hopefully they produce new psuedobulbs Phrags bloom only once per fan, then they produce new ones. It makes us look more closely when we are buying/rescuing plants. It's so basic that it isn't mentioned. I have various books and have scoured the internet and had to ask this simple question.
Thank you for having such a great forum. I am in danger of killing my keyboard when I look at some of the gorgeous photos - drooling.
Hi everyone answered your question, I have Oncidium ornithorhynchum and it blooms two spikes from each pseudo bulb. This year it grew three spikes and triple the scent!!!
isnt that the species that "stinks" like ozone?
