    Default Cirrho vaginatum

Of course I do know that (currently) all(?) cirrho's are bulbos... I just prefer to keep the Cirrho name - means more oin terms of remembering what the flower looks like etc... or maybe I just want to be awkward. Take your choice.

Nice easy species. Seems to flower ( for me) on the bulb before the current one. This 7 inch pan now has about 7 leads, but only these 3 flowering. Hmm,,, a good talking to, perhaps ? Or maybe give it a squib of Superthrive...

Each flower about one inch or perhaps 3 cm long btw.

    Nice bloom!!

This is one of the most problematic bulbophyllums that I have. No matter how much water it's given, it always dries out on me. I am pretty sad that I can grow Bulbos from other countries but cannot grow a local species properly...sigh.

No smell that I noticed, but maybe my olfactory organ is on strike... i say that because another pic I posted today is of a flower which everyone says smells of raspberries , and I took particular note to sniff it - and can't smell anyhing there either. smell is such a personal/subjective thing. A friend can't stand Oncid ornithoryhnchum ; I can smell that, but don't find it objectionable - he says-" but its such a strong smell" - and I don't think so....

Looks like it would have a smell, but many don't. I suppose it is mostly the red or dark bulbos that really put out the stink. Thanks for the response.

In such a large and diverse collection, I do not know how you keep your orchids as healthy as they seem in these photographs. I have maybe 36 orchids of various species/hybrids and that is enough to keep me occupied in much of my spare time. A very fine Bilbo, oh! and by the way I love the fragrance of Oncidium ornithoryhnchum. I think it smells like lavender soap. AL

It is a full-time hobby , or at least, when my dearly beloved allows, I can spend a few hours every day in the greenhouse. I left school at 15, worked all my life ( apart from two years in the army during the war in Korea ) and retired at 64 - adds up to almost 50 years of graft. I think I have earned the right to do something that I really enjoy in my retirement. And yes, there was a time when I did other hobbies too - like serious photography, and spent less time with the orchids , but they look better and are better now that I concentrate on one subject.
