I remember this Johhny ! Good to see that the Phals are thriving. But I have to point out , that though they are growing in your set up, they are actually not loving it. If you observe all the new healthy roots are growing from the pot, outside into the air, rather than going deep into the pot. This is their way of telling, that its too moist and suffocating in their. Just reduce the amount of perlite and increase the lava rock and they will love it with more air movement and less moisture, just my thoughts.

Halloamey, Thank you for always taking the time to help. Actually, I am afraid to unpot them and reduce the perlite at the moment. Would it help if make more holes above the existing holes for better air movement. and as for the roots that are growing outside the pots, they are only 3 roots per each Phals, there's also many new roots that have grown into the pot.

I have to agree here. Do the pots drain about half-way down to allow air to reach the roots? Glad you are seeing spikes and leaves too. Thanks for sharing the results of you tests with us. I look forward to future updates.

Yes, more air to the roots I believe would improve the roots.

Yes surely, do not repot them again, just make more bigger holes and set the plants inan airy location. that will do it.

Yes you should do that, so that the pot has direct access to the air.

Good growing empiref.....Will you ever need to repot, as it seems the combo of perlite and lava rock may "never" break down??? ( I guess when the roots outgrow the pot you will put it in a larger container,,,,,,,,,,)
