We were visited by the sandhill cranes this afternoon, they spent at least an hour in our front yard. We have seen them every evening flying over to the preserve to roost for the night but this is the first time they have stopped in our yard.

Neat stuff! I love them birdies. AL
Great shots,Cin. Sandhill cranes in the front yard? What a treat!!!
My grandmother lives on the other side of the state (Stuart) and has a family of Sandhills nesting every year directly behind her home. While they are neat to see prancing around so gracefully, she hates them because they come right up to her home and have pecked so hard on the windows and walls that they have caused a lot of damage, not to mention bleeding all over the place. Since they are protected, you have to have animal control come out and relocate them.
Wow, cool pics! Sandhills are beautiful. We saw only a few on our last trip down but were glad to see them.
Mikki, they are not the smartest birds.
Cin they are really beautiful ! But they have a rather serious look LOL !
Great pics Cin. Wish I had cranes in my yard, they are brilliant.
Tell me about that! I couldn't believe my eyes the last time I visited my GM... They came right up to the house and started pecking on the glass.... I guess they see their reflection and don't realize they are seeing themselves but think it is another bird intruding on their territory! They pecked the window and walls so hard that my GM had to call a repair man to fix the destroyed screens and wash all the dried blood off the walls!
Cindy, that is so cool. Such a huge bird!
Cheers,
