One of very few Oncidinae in my collection. This species is now called Gomesa echinata.(Barb.Rodr.) M.W.Chase & N.H.Williams, Ann. Bot. (Oxford) 104: 396 (2009).
G. echinata is found in the lowland rainforest of the southern states Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina of Brazil. Plant size 20-25cm. The flowers are 2-2.5cm wide.

I like the spotting in the lip. The two "teeth" in the lower area of the throat remind me of snail appendages. Quite interesting.
