It is really up to you. Clay will pull a little moisture away from your orchid because it is porous. Plastic drys out pretty fast since it cannot absorb moisture. Really, the choice depends on how often you water. (Your schedule.)
As for root hormone: it would not hurt to add a tiny bit, but it is not necessary. I think your orchid will be fine with normal feeding, good quality light, and proper humidity.
