Glad to know you Bruce!
Thanks Joseph, how can we know when is it matured? My ones is quite big and heavy (over 5kg incl pot), also, the canes are very high and fatty
Yup, studying in Otago University with double majors degree in Finance & Economics. I bought all my Speciosum up in Bay of plenty. I love this species because love its long spikes and highly scented. Can you post photos of your garden or speciosum you have, Jordan?![]()
Hi Steven,
I live in Auckland and grow many dendrobiums. My speciosums have flowered in 5 years but they sit outside in full sun and to be honest are not fertilized very often. I also grow many other Aussie dendrobiums as well as they are my favorite orchid genera.
So am not sure how much sun they are getting but bear in mind that they are known as Australian rock orchids so they grow out in the open in full sun on rocks so are very hardy
Will post some photos soon for interest.
Cheers
Rodney
Thanks for your post Rodney, I don't think I could live my plant outside as Dunedin weather is a little bit strickyand the if I put them under the full sun, it might burn their leaves I'm sure. I'm growing them in orchid mix (get from warehouse as can't find any orchid nursery near where I'm living) and put them near window that they can get as much as sun light. We have a few hours of the sun going through the window that I think would be great!

I have one in the back section of the property. It has been there at least 22 years. They generally flower in the spring in Sydney. I never do anything to it . Just let it grow and flower naturally. Last season it had 40 flower spikes.
